Indoor Accelerated Testing

LEADCAP WMA mixtures were produced at 275°F. The 8ft-wide and 22.5-ft long LEADCAP WMA test section was constructed at Accelerated Pavement Load Facility (APLF) at Ohio University. 3-inch layer of 12.5 mm using PG 72-22 binder was placed in two lifts. Densities were measured using a nuclear gauge on three different spots as 92.4%, 95.5% and 91.0%. Loading was applied with standard dual tires loaded to 9,000-lb (40 kN) rolling in a unidirectional mode at 5 mph. The load test consisted of 10,000 unidirectional cycles with profiles taken at 100, 300, 1000, 2000, 3000, 5000, 7000 and 10,000 cycles. It took approximately one week to complete 10,000 unidirectional loading cycles in November, 2012. The air temperature was set at 104°F throughout the test. After the 10,000 cycles, rut measurement was 0.30 and 0.34 inch for under each of loading duel tires which can be considered as an accepable level of rutting.
