Brian Keierleber

Brian has been the County Engineer in Buchanan County Iowa since 1993 As the County Engineer he oversees the maintenance and construction of the 963 miles of county roads and 257 county bridges. Past engineering experience includes working as the Palo Alto County Engineer in Emmetsburg Iowa, project engineer for the City of Bartlesville Oklahoma, and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. He was commissioned in the US Army as a Civil Engineer Officer and served for 14 years as a Combat Engineer Platoon Leader, Training Officer, Infantry Company Commander, Field Artillery Battery Commander, and Engineer Group Civil Engineer Officer, and Battalion Civil Engineer Officer. He served in Germany on two REFORGERS and supervised construction in Panama and in Honduras. Brian has served as the State Director for Iowa and is currently the South Central Region Vice President for the  National Association of County Engineers (NACE). He also serves as Chair of the Structures Committee and represents NACE on the AASHTO Standing Committee on Research. He has served on the Board of Advisors for the Civil and Environmental Engineering Departments at the University of Iowa.  He has been very aggressively searching for more economical means of replacing the county bridges utilizing a wide variety of materials then sharing the information learned. He has received the Iowa County Engineer Achievement award and the NACE Rural County Engineer of the Year Award, in addition to receiving numerous military awards, paving awards and structures awards. He is a graduate of South Dakota State University with a Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering.
